The medical community has traditionally treated arthritis by using a combination of diet exercise and pain relievers. Aspirin has been used to treat arthritis ever since it was invented. Surgery has also been implemented as a method of treatment, but it has only as of late become refined enough to be used on wide scale basis. One of the newest trends is to treat the disease with dietary supplements and diet.
There are of course side effects to any drugs used to treat this disease. Earlier treatment practices were to dispense pain relievers to help the patient endure the pain associated with the disease. This of course did nothing to help alleviate the actual cause of the disease, nor did it help with other symptoms such as swelling and tenderness. The use of a pain reliever to treat the disease can lead to it actually getting worse. This is because once the pain has been masked by medication the patient will no longer seek treatment for the condition but rather use the painkillers as a treatment.
Some of the side effects which are most prominent with many pain killers are stomach cramps, nausea and diarrhea. Unfortunately the majority of medications which are prescribed to ease the pain of arthritis cause stomach upset. In some instances these drugs can irritate the lining of the stomach and intestine and cause bleeding which is released in the stool. A better natural alternative can be found at arthritis pain relief. These may include Coral Calcium (O2 Proformance from Nutronix International) and arthritis and osteoarthritis pain relief supplements from the highly-regarded Vitabase.
Aspirin is a commonly prescribed medication for the treatment of this disease. Aspirin has been shown to cause the body to leak essential vitamins, particularly B vitamins. These are body building vitamins and nutrients which are essential to optimal joint health. As an alternative, the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs have been utilized to replace aspirin, however they too have been shown to be an irritant to the stomach and bowel lining.
The newest rounds of drugs being used to combat the ravages of arthritis are the immune suppressive drugs which aim to beat the disease at the immune system. Some of the more well known are methotrexate, hydroxychloroquine and gold. Gold can be administered by mouth or by injection, while methotrexate and hydroxychloroquine are administered orally. The patient must be carefully monitored while on these drugs, and see their physician regularly.
Of course when all else fails, there is also several types of surgical procedures which have been developed to relieve the pain associated with the disease. The surgeries can vary from the removal of inflamed joint lining to replacing entire joints. Hips, shoulders and knees are the most frequently replaced joints when it comes to surgery to relieve arthritic pain. As time goes by and technology progresses, you can be sure there will be more alternatives for arthritis treatment. Here is one from Vitabase for pain relief Vitabase Pain Relief
